Job Summary

The primary function of the Risk Analyst is to report in real time on worldwide events which have the potential to affect the interests and assets of our clients by monitoring major news sources and gathering intelligence using a number of mediums. This information is subsequently used to provide a risk and threat assessment, written in the form of an alert, which is then uploaded to our system using dedicated software and passed directly to the client. Additionally, the Risk Analyst will assist in the company’s out of hours support procedure in the event of an emergency. They will also provide support to account managers requesting travel briefs or more information on an event that could affect a client.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Closely monitor current worldwide news events using a variety of mediums such as the international press, news aggregators, social media, and intelligence sources
  • Identify emerging trends or upcoming events which could affect Anvil clients’ business operations, travelers, and assets
  • Publish timely and relevant incident alerts in Anvil’s threat and risk intelligence portal to inform our clients’ stakeholders and travelers
  • Dispatch interactive communications to travelers and stakeholders in developing or emergency situations
  • Support the production of travel security briefings, situational updates, threat assessments, and other requests for information
  • Conduct research utilizing open source methods and techniques
  • Deliver oral and written threat briefings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Assess risks and the impact on our clients’ travelers, assets, and business operations
  • Make fact-based and unbiased risk assessments on a wide range of threats affecting clients
  • Update and amends systems within Anvil’s dedicated software package to ensure information such as government travel advisories is current
  • Manage numerous country summaries and updates system in real time when a significant event occurs
  • Conduct changeover briefs with team

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • Degree seeking – preferably in intelligence, homeland security, global studies, or international relations; or relevant work experience
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, such as Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook
  • Knowledge of Google Earth and Maps
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Notepad ++
  • Familiarity with analytic tradecraft
  • The ideal candidate will possess self-motivation, drive, focus, initiative, and innovation
  • A keen interest in worldwide current affairs
  • An aptitude for analysis and a naturally enquiring mind
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work alone or as part of a team in a high pressure environment where deadlines and priorities change constantly
  • The ability to think laterally and objectively, avoiding assumptions, while remaining unbiased throughout
  • Strong constitution to be able to deal with researching often harrowing worldwide events while remaining culturally and politically sensitive at all times
  • Keen attention to detail with a strong emphasis on accuracy and completing a task correctly the first time
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Effective problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree – preferably in intelligence, homeland security, global studies, or international relations
  • Advanced Spanish language skills (preferably A Level) with particular emphasis on grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Knowledge of geopolitical structure in Latin America
  • Experience with open source research in public or private sector
